The Many Accessories of a MetalGear Cross Box

MetalGear cross boxes are one of our most customizable truck accessories.

We commonly refer to our cross boxes as “the ultimate straight truck storage accessory”, and for good reason. Not only are they extremely popular, and not only are they extremely useful, but they offer a myriad of customization options for both the interior and the exterior.

Flexibility and accessibility are what makes these straight truck accessories so popular. Sure, we offer standard box sizes, but that doesn’t mean we’ll hold you to them. We make custom ones all the time – and interiors are almost always custom.

As a result, we are often asked what the customization options that we offer actually are. The answer is pretty simple most of the time: What do you need?

To demonstrate this, we’ve compiled a bunch of photos that demonstrate just some of the custom options that we offer for each cross box. Take a look at some of the examples below.

EXTERIOR: Cam-Lock and T-Handle Door Handles

We offer t-handles and cam-lock handles as standard options for each cross box we make. Our cam-locks are well known for the additional strength and security that they offer, but many customers like the familiarity and cost-effectiveness offered by standard t-handles.

EXTERIOR: Storage Options

As additional exterior storage options, we’ve made these custom rake/shovel holders that mount to the side of the cross box, and a clever tool/tarp tray that can be included on the top of the box.

INTERIOR: The Standard “Open” Configuration

Not much in the way of specifics to go into here. Some customers just want a blank, open, or clean interior for their cross boxes. Sometimes this is because they want to add their own accesssories, or sometimes customers don’t want any limits to their storage, and an open interior is the way to go. It’s the simplest, and the most cost-effective way to get a cross box as well. 

INTERIOR: Shelves

Perhaps one of the simplest options that we offer are shelves. However, we offer a number of ways that you can integrate shelves into your cross box. Shelves can be full width or partial width. Their height can be adjustable or they can be fixed in place. We’ve made flat shelves, and we’ve made deeper “tray” style shelves.

Shelves can go a long way to improving and optimizing the storage capabilites of your cross box, and as a result, are one of the most popular accessories that truckers add to their boxes.

INTERIOR: Dividers

Another popular accessory that can be easily added to your custom cross box are dividers. Dividers can be used in clever locations inside of almost any cross box as ways to organize equipment, and prevent equipment from moving during transport. These are often used in the centre of cross boxes, or to divide the obvious sections created when the cross box saddles the truck frame.

INTERIOR: Hooks

Some small, but very useful accessories are hooks. These are often used to organize and store hoses, extension cords, chains and other long equipment items. We’ve made two different styles of hooks, both of which are pictured above.

The J-hook and the standard straight hook. J-hooks offer slightly more hanging real estate and tend to be used for thicker hoses or longer cords. Straight hooks are ideal for thinner cords, shorter hoses, or for hanging rags or other similar material items.

INTERIOR: Pull-out Drawers

Pull-out drawers are one of our newer interior accessories, but we’ve been making more and more of them lately as they continue to gain popularity. We’ve made short, multi level drawers, and we’ve made long, deep, full-length drawers.

Drawers are a great way to organize or contain your equipment, and can be a very handy way to access your tools while working. No need to reach into the depths of your cross box, just pull out the drawers and access the tools you need!
